Crasher Classics 27 12 2005

The weather certainly was a little bit of an obstacle and with a few shandies keeping us warm we arrived at the almighty Republic for Crasher Classics, and what a treat was instore for us.

We arrived at 11.30 and the place was absolutely thumping. Being a sell out in true Crasher style there were people coming out of every area with people hanging off the balcony and trying not to fall off the stage (the ones that did and we saw, don’t worry we wont tell anyone).
The crowd was a mixture and ranging from the infamous ‘beer boys’, first timers to regulars and as with the current times unfortunately even less ‘crasher kids’ floating around, However, the main point was that EVERYONE had a smile on their face and the atmosphere was electric, everyone was there for one main purpose, to have a great time.

Thrillseekers were getting the place going by playing an uplifting set and really getting people in the mood for the night ahead with Motorcyle, ‘when the Rush Comes’. There weren’t many people holding back everyone was having a right old boogie and working off all the food consumed over Christmas
Following them were Riley and Durrant who seemed to be over after five minutes then the one and only Jan Johnston started up. Unfortunately she wasn’t obviously visible to the crowd having placed herself on the middle of the stage instead of perhaps one of the podiums. However, you could certainly hear her sing, and she was fantastic. I may be a little biased due to the fact that Skydive is a personal favourite, but to hear the live version as well as with Flesh was a truly amazing experience, and well worth braving the treacherous weather.
Matt Hardwick (our legend) rolled on and played the usual decent trance set, throwing a fair few golden oldies including CJ Bolland ‘The prophet’, Push ‘The legacy’, Solar stone ‘Seven cities’, Madagascar ‘art of trance’ and finally Members of mayday ‘10 in 01’.
Gatecrasher is renowned for putting on a brilliant show and they certainly lived up to this reputation with the lazers proving their weight in gold and glitter falling from the roof at the end of a breakdown adding to the whole experience. By now the place was emptying out, the lightweights. We were able to make it to the bar and have a relaxation period catching up with new and old chums and, of course talking to many randoms.

We stepped back into the room and had a little sway around to John OO Fleming who rounded up the night. John OO Fleming lowered the tempo slightly, however in his defence he totally turned it around by playing some ace floaty trance which used up about our last ounce of energy and prepared us for the cold outside.

All in all a very good night was had and despite the atrocious weather we found the yellow brick road which brought us safely back home. Crasher classics once again brought us lots of fun and despite what is said Gatecrasher is still going strong and for those of you that don’t know, it is making a come back with monthly nights starting in February. Hopefully they will pull back in the heavy weights in the form of Paul Van Dyk, Tiesto and even Mauro Picotto to keep it going from strength to strength, exactly how it should be. Good luck to Gatecrasher in 2006.
